Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a martial art, a self defence and a combat sport that has an emphasis on ground fighting techniques. Our program involves submission techniques, choke holds and joint locks. The main idea in BJJ is to take the opponent to the ground as this negates the advantage that a larger or stronger opponent may have when standing upright.

Our BJJ program at Newcastle Karate is affiliated with ‘Team Perosh’. Anthony Perosh is a 4th Degree black belt under ‘Carlos Machado’ and is a recently retired UFC fighter. Anthony won gold in the Open Class Masters in the IBJJF Jiu-Jitsu world Championships. We are fortunate to have Anthony attend Newcastle Karate regularly to conduct seminars and grading’s, sharing his vast knowledge and skills.

Our Jiu jitsu program has an extensive Machado curriculum for both the adults and childrens classes. It’s an uncompromising program that delivers results with a clear pathway to skills advancement and progression.
